With the New England Patriots making it known to receiver Troy Brown that the time has come for him to go, Brown isn’t inclined to go quietly.
Instead, he might end up playing for the Pats’ arch-rivals in New York.
Per Christopher Gasper of the Boston Globe, Brown is visiting the Jets on Monday. Reiss notes that losing Brown to the Jets would be a “tough blow for Patriots fans.”
But it’s not as if Brown is pulling a Vinatieri here. Troy would surely be happy to continue to play for the Pats if they wanted him. They don’t want him. So he moves on. If Patriots fans don’t like that, it’s not Brown’s fault.
But, surely, part of Brown’s attraction to Jets coach Eric Mangini and G.M. Mike Tannenbaum is that scooping Troy up could be a way to stick it to the Pats. And for that reason alone we wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Brown get a one-year deal for the veteran minimum, which will pay him $830,000 but cost only $445,000.

So the AFC East nastiness continues. Just one big inbred family over there!

I’m as big a Patriot fan as the next, and I would hate to see him go to the Jets, but you can’t keep a guy on your roster for nostalgia. This season Troy got paid to stay in shape and muff a punt off his face. Let him walk.

As a fan of the Patriots I hate to see him go but he is obviously near the end of his career and as such he might as well maximize his football earning potential or whatever may remain of it. Given that he did not really play last year if the Jets are willing to give him $800,000… take you money Mr. Brown.

Troy Brown isn’t going to scare anyone, least of all the Pats.

I don’t think anyone in Patriots Nation would ever hold something like this against Troy. Troy is a fixture in Boston Sports folklore.

great guy, amazing leader, but the Jets have a number of receivers like Chansi Stuckey and Wallace Wright they are trying to bring along. I don’t know if there is a spot for him even if they did sign him.

This is awesome. The jets keep filling there roster to spite another team instead of using roster spots to make there team better. What’s next, the jets drafting leodis mckelvin so he doesn’t end up with new england?

How would the Jets sigining Troy Brown be “sticking it” to the Patriots? Maybe they can sign Steve Grogan and Andre Tippett too.
