Well, he’s at it again.
A season after predicting (kind of) that the Detroit Lions would win ten games during the 2007 season, quarterback Jon Kitna has repeated his prediction (kind of) for 2008.
In an item from the Detroit Free Press , Kitna expresses (again) that he’d be disappointed with less than ten victories. Among other things, he points to the return of running back Tatum Bell in support of a belief that the Lions will be improved in 2008.
We don’t know what Kitna has been doing in the offseason, but we’re hoping that the doctors check him for, you know, seven or eight new concussions. We’re not saying the Lions won’t win ten games, but if they do it won’t be due to the exploits of Tatum Bell.
Last year, the Lions started 6-2 but finished 1-7.
Look, we’ve got no problem with optimism. Just keep it in the locker room. Otherwise, a guy risks being viewed as an even bigger doofis than he is.

How could someone not at least consider Detroit passing on Adrian Peterson being the biggest mistake of the 2007 draft? They passed on a franchise back because they had Kevin Jones, who was coming off a foot injury.
People say the Raiders blew it, I thought the runningback position in Detroit was worse, and they picked 2!

Why is this even news really? Is he supposed to say that he thinks they’ll be terrible again (which of course they will be) and fully expects another sub .500 season? I think if I were {shudder} a Lions fan I’d be more upset if he came out and says he’s expecting another Millenesque year than this.

Kitna didn’t predict 10 wins again, I heard the interview. Kitna simply said to make the playoffs in the NFL now, you need 10 wins. They are taking what he said and spinning it around as usual. Do I think they will get to 10 wins, highly doubt it, but Kitna was just making a general statement about what a team needs to make the playoffs.
