After adding receivers Isaac Bruce and Bryant Johnson since the start of free agency on February 29, the 49ers have opted to trim from the roster veteran wideout Darrell Jackson, reports Adam Schefter of NFL Network.
Jackson was traded to San Fran in 2007 from the Seahawks for a fourth-round draft pick. Through the 2004 season he was developing into a high-end receiver, but knee problems limited him significantly in 2005. He was able to participate in 13 games in 2006, but the addition of Nate Burleson and Deion Branch made him expendable.
With the 49ers, he started 15 games and caught 46 passes for 497 yards and three touchdowns.
It’s unknown whether Jackson has anything left, but teams that run the West Coast offense will likely have an interest. The most likely destinations include the Vikings, Bucs, Eagles, and Redskins.

I as a season ticket holder would welcome D-Jack back home. He is from Tampa, lives in Tampa, We run a Gruden version of the West Coast. Just CATCH THE DAMN FOOTBALL if you come home to T-Town !!!!
If not… heck, drop as many as you want “Stone Hands”.

I wonder what this does to the Vikings recent renegotiations with Robert Furguson? It will be interesting to see if they do start some discussions. I know the Viking fan reaction on Furguson is mixed, heavier on the negative side.
Furguson is on the roster because of his West Coast Offense experience. D.Jackson has the WCO experience as well, so they could be interchangable.

I WOULD TAKE HIM IN WASHINGTON. IT IS AMAZING HOW MUCH CASH WAS THROWN AT WALKER AND BERRIAN, WHEN YOU CAN GET SERVICABLE RECIVERS LIKE JACKSON, HACKETT, BRYANT JOHNSON FOR MUCH CHEAPER. ANY OF THESE GUYS WOULD BE A HUGE UPGRADE FOR THE SKINS # 3 reciever.

Well, mixed on Ferg, but he did a good job blocking downfield I’d say..
I’m looking forward to see if they involve AA more in the passing game this year.

I could definitely see him being of use to the Eagles. Not as the “#1″ that Eagles fans have been clamoring for, but as some true competition for the 3-5 spots (or 2-5 if you want to put Reggie Brown there). Bill Sampy and Michael Gasperson shouldn’t even be practice squad options.

As a Vikings fan (can you tell by my user name?), I think that Chilly might have an interest in Jackson. I have no interest in him, even when comparing him to Ferguson. As you say, Black Magic, the two receivers are probably interchangeable in terms of talent. Ferguson is younger and would be the better choice there. He also drops less passes than Jackson.

I just wonder how many balls a guy can drop in a lifetime.

This move makes me wonder why the Niners didn’t lock Bryant Johnson up for more than 1 year.
Antonio Bryant lasted a season, now DJax has. Couldn’t Lelie been the guy to let go? What separates Lelie from DJax in terms of staying power? Speed? Because he Lelie certainly isn’t tougher, or more productive (neither are both). Its not like either wide otu practices.
So now, Bryant Johnson is going to be the next Niner in the one year window. Heck, even Isaac Bruce could be in that group if Martz leaves town after a season.

They handed Jackson his letter of release, and he dropped it.

Jackson would be a nice fit for the Eagles.

As a 9er fan I could not be more happy. I wanted them to cut him mid-season. Now that we have Bruce and Bryant Johnson there is no reason to keep him around. Great move!

When you get beat out by 56 yr old Isaac Bruce before he even plays a down, isn’t that like, ya know, a hint?

First off Washington let out a big sigh, Zorn will not bring him in. The others that think he will be an upgrade have you seen him play? Well SF did not either, he was either hurt or when he did play was dropping balls. D-Drop, if anyone signs him will be a 5th reciever at best.
